May FUN FLY RESULTS
Well, as our luck would have it, Friday the 13th happened to fall on a Wednesday in May. Torrential rains and winds forced us to disappoint the flock of faithful flyers who showed up to test their skills against the highly challenging parachute drop. Furthermore, I have a sizeable collection of parachutists, each of whom- judging by their laconic moods- also seem quite disappointed.
Accordingly, I have elected to hold the parachute drop at the June 10th FUN FLY in lieu of the balloon bust. This, of course, assumes that I can once again impose on Mike Ouelette to provide his bomber/parachute drop plane…

FYI: On Friday, May 22nd, several members of the Benton County R/C Club called in sick to work (apparently, each had mysteriously acquired a serious case of “The Flyin’ Flew”) and gathered at Unwin Field to edify and entertain a group of 4 year-old pre-schoolers from Monmouth. The kids were so enthralled and fascinated that they were surprisingly well behaved and attentive. They were first given some 'ground-schooling' and then got to see some very impressive flight demonstrations. Several of these appreciative youngsters are 'champing at the bit' to get on the buddy-box so they can learn to do it themselves... Keith and Ed~ brace yourselves!!!
Guest pilots Shane and Lynne from Independence had arranged for the session and participated in the demos. The weather, as well as the kids, behaved itself so it was a fun couple of hours! I hope one or two of the photos show up well in these pages…
Have a fine month…
