FUNFLY
Last month’s meeting was a terrific success. Special thanks go out to Jim Bourke for hosting the BCRCC at the Corvallis Aero Service hangar and giving our club the rundown on “RUSSIAN THUNDER,” his most impressive full-scale YAK-54. Unfortunately, I had an out-of-town conflict and wasn’t able to be there but, I was told by a number of club members in attendance that it was a very special and enjoyable presentation, indeed.

We’re now blessed with more daylight and, hopefully, gentler weather. Thus, this month’s meeting on Wednesday, May 14th, will be the season’s first outdoor FUNFLY program. We’ll try to get things going by 7:30 pm. Either Electric or Fuel powered planes are acceptable. Additional details for this month’s FUNFLY are as follows:
Poker Fun Fly: 9 Maneuvers will each earn playing cards, as follows:
---Immelmann turn- 1 card
---Split S- 1 card
---Inside loop- 1 card
---Outside loop- 1 card
---2 Rolls- 1 card
---Inverted flight- 2 cards
---Cuban 8- 2 cards
---Zone ‘touch & go’- 2 cards
---Deadstick zone landing- 3 cards.
The best poker hands will derive from a combination of skill + luck and those skillful, lucky hand-holders will choose from a variety of gift selections… The business portion of the meeting will take place immediately following the Poker Funfly.
N.B. This year, a few staple maneuvers didn’t quite make ‘the cut.’ They are the low, slow knife-edge pass; the ever-popular rising, inverted flat-spin and the low-circling, torque-rolling harrier. There’s always next year!

Finally, a trio of reminders:
---There is a tear in the runway mat near the north-east corner. I know of at least one plane (mine) that suffered a bit of a mishap because of this. As I gained altitude from a touch and go, I noted that my tail-wheel was not to be seen and a second or two later my rudder fell off… I ‘got off the hook easy’ as fortunately, both problems were readily fixable! Please take special care here until we are able to repair it.
---The Pylon Races will begin on June 5th, so let’s get all those P-51’s assembled and log in a bit of practice to iron out any kinks so it’s a fun season for all…
---Many of our members are now using the 2.4 GHz system. But, those of us still on 72 MHz may have relaxed a bit too much about checking for frequency overlaps. There was a crash at the field this past month for this reason. Please remember this necessary detail… The plane you save may be mine!!!
Have a fine month…
